What might be the cause of spark plugs "dripping" with oil or gas?

I acquired a 1999 Saturn coupe for my grandson. I noticed it was running a bit rough so I decided to change the plugs. I removed one and discovered it was almost dripping with a yellowish gas or oil. Not sure how to proceed. Should I go ahead and put in new plugs or might it be something more significant? Aoppreciate any advice.

Thanks, Old GrandpaWhat might be the cause of spark plugs %26quot;dripping%26quot; with oil or gas?Sounds as if you have oil or coolant leaking into that cylinder.

Get a compression guage and remove your plugs. Put in the compression guage and have someone crank the engine until you get the highest reading on the guage. Watch the guage to see if the needle drops. Do this with each cylinder.

If you have a low reading on 2 cylinders next to each other, then you have a blown head gasket or warped head allowing it to spill over into that cylinder.

Don't drive it with a plug dripping liquid when you took it out. You have either coolant or oil getting into that cylinder.

On the cylinder with a low reading, get an oil can and spray oil into that cylinder. Now do another compression check. If the compression go up, then your rings are the problem. If the compression remains low, it could be leaking oil past the valve guide, or a blown head gasket or warped cylinder head. What might be the cause of spark plugs %26quot;dripping%26quot; with oil or gas?Was the electrode end of the spark plugs oily? It is very common for the exposed end of an installed spark plug to get oily due to someone spilling oil while filling the engine. The spark plug sockets can collect this spilled oil, and get the plugs really nasty, but this can be easily cleaned up. However, if you're seeing oil or gunk on the electrode end, that means you have serious issues inside your engine. What might be the cause of spark plugs %26quot;dripping%26quot; with oil or gas?that plug is probably not firing so it is getting a fuel accumulation , if it is a twin cam check the plug %26quot; well %26quot; in the valve cover , if it is flooded with oil you will need to change the gasket , use lots of silicone , and clean the wire as best you can , if that is not it , check that all cylinders fire , could be a coil pack , then do a compression test , good luck gramps .What might be the cause of spark plugs %26quot;dripping%26quot; with oil or gas?i think you should take it 2 the shop because the motor might have a leak internally or the motor sounds like its flooded. the best thing you can do is take it 2 the shop. What might be the cause of spark plugs %26quot;dripping%26quot; with oil or gas?Improper gap, bad distributor, bad wire sequence. I would change the distributer, wires, plugs. See from there, cheapest first in my book. What might be the cause of spark plugs %26quot;dripping%26quot; with oil or gas?sure go ahead replace since you dont know when it had been done should do everything you can for it not knowing then recheck it in a few weeks and see if its any betterWhat might be the cause of spark plugs %26quot;dripping%26quot; with oil or gas?I'm thinking it's water mixed with gas and oil, which means the head gasket or intake manifold gasket is leaking.

What color is the coolant?
