Changing spark plugs on a 99 Cad Catera?

I need help understanding how to change the spark plugs on a 99 Cad Catera. Just lifting the hood is no help. It appears the wires and plugs are covered up somehow. Please assist if you can. I want to avoid taking it to a dealership if I can.Changing spark plugs on a 99 Cad Catera? The spark plugs are located under the upper plenum on this vehicle. When you open the hood there is a large plastic cover to be removed, the upper plenum is an aluminum item typically attached by 10 to 12 bolts. Once the plenum is removed you will have access to the spark plugs. The spark plugs are platinum and expensive. It is typical to only have to replace them after 100,000 miles. If you have less you may be able to have the Fuel(induction)system service that will remove the carbon build up. Not to sound degrading but I would leave it to a professional mechanic on this ride.Changing spark plugs on a 99 Cad Catera?Rh side:Relieve the fuel system pressure.Disconnect the fuel supply and return hoses from the intake manifold.Move heater hoses. How do you fix a fuel injected car that has gas flooded spark plugs and wont turn on?

I have a 97 Nissan Altima GXE. It idled pretty rough for about two months until one day it turned off on me and didn't want to turn on no more. I changed the fuel filter, Fuel pressure regulator, and checked the gas pump and it pumps fine. I took the spark plugs out and they were soaked in gasoline. when i crank the engine to try and turn it on it just smells like gas. What could be the problem and solution? How do you fix a fuel injected car that has gas flooded spark plugs and wont turn on?Nissan has always had a problem with their cars flooding. I don't know why but usually just changing the plugs helps. Tsb advises customers to start car with accelerator held halfway down. They also have a redesigned starter that makes the engine turn faster when cranking. If you continue to have the problem it maybe from a different source like an injector leaking or fuel pressure may be too high. pull the vacuum line off of regulator and make sure that is not leaking also. How do you fix a fuel injected car that has gas flooded spark plugs and wont turn on?what plugs do u use ive used new plugs did same thing so i bought cheap ones like champions they burn hot try that

How much to change spark plugs?

I have a 1989 toyota celica st and I am looking to put it platinum spark plugs to make it last longer. Do I have to get new wires too? How much would it be for just these two?How much to change spark plugs?platinum spark plugs can range in price anywhere from 2 dollars a piece to 8.. personally the brand u choose as your replacement would be the same as the wires.. yes the spark plugs and wires should be replaced at the same time to be able to adjust and operate the same as they wear as the years go by.. same as replacing oil filter along with new oil.. your probably looking anywhere in the range of 30 to 120 depending on how much your wanting to spendHow much to change spark plugs?plugs'll probly be $20 and wires'll probly be another $20How much to change spark plugs?go with iridium plugs, ngk makes them they are better. you do not have to replace your wires. make sure the plugs are gapped correctly.the ngk plugs are about 14-20 a plug. but worth it on the small amount of increased fuel economy. i didn't change the wires on my trans am.if you can do it yourself or ask some one to do it. you will get ripped off almost anywhere. i got quoted $285 to do the plugs in my trans am. that wasn't even counting the price of the plugs. How much to change spark plugs? If you don't have any miss firing or rough idle I wouldn't worry about the plug wires just change the plugs but use some anti seize on the threads of the plugs. This keeps them from seizing in the threads in the head of the engine. But make sure you gap the plugs before installing them. And make sure of the torque when putting them in and not to over tightening them because aluminum heads with spark plug holes will strip out them threads.Use a torque wrench if you don't have one borrow one from some body if you can't buy one from a parts store and ask what the torque should be on the plugs. How much to change spark plugs?I put Bosch twin electrode platinums in my Corolla 6 years ago and they're still good. I've ,since then , driven to Canada, Disneyland in Orange Co, Keystone Colorado and Vail Colorado, plus daily commute in the SanFrancisco Bay Area. I can talk about 60,000 miles on a set of platinum plugs and the original plug wires. Invest $10- $15 on those spark plugs and don't worry for the next 6 years at least. How much to change spark plugs? If you haven't replaced the ignition wires, cap and rotor with Denso or NGK parts within the past 50,000 miles you'd better add that to the %26quot;to do%26quot; list along with Denso or NGK platinum or longer lasting iridium spark plugs. I have a 1999 Lexus ES300 and i was wondering how to change the back spark plugs on it? Also i was wondering on how to change the spark plug wires? If there are any websites which have pictures please post them. I went to a mechanic and they told me that it would be around 150 to do the job. ThanksHow do you change the spark plugs on a 1999 Lexus ES300?The mechanic's price is too much, you can easily change the spark plugs by having a spark plug remover. Instead of paying 150, use this to buy yourself a spark plug remover. If you wish to change the wires, simply pull the black rounded terminals and they come out easily. You must change all four spark plugs to ensure smooth combustion on all four cylinders. Changing new spark plugs will only require 20-30 minutes.

Do we need to use the torque wrench to tight the spark plugs?

    hello folks..

its regarding my 01 max and i have never changed the spark plugs on my car by myself, but i did changed the coils so i know how to get to the plugs etc, my question is..do i need to buy a torque wrench to tight the plugs or i can just use the rachet and hand tight them? please help me cuz i am on the way of getting this done today.Do we need to use the torque wrench to tight the spark plugs? Most likely the head of your engine is aluminum. Aluminum is a %26quot;soft%26quot; metal and the threads strip very easily. A torque wrench is always recommended for tightening spark plugs and is an absolute must for an aluminum head. Overtighten and you could damage the plug as well as the threads in the engine head. Too loose and the engine won't run properly. The best torque wrench to get is the kind with the %26quot;twist%26quot; adjustment because you can't overtighten with these.

You will also need a spark plug socket, 12in extension (I'll explain later), and recommend some anti seize.

The anti-seize goes ONLY on the threaded portion of the plug. Keep in mind a little goes a loooooong way. The amount you use should be about the size of 1/3 of an eraser of a wood pencil.

When installing spark plugs it is always best to start running them in by hand so you don't %26quot;cross thread%26quot; them. You can use the spark plug socket and extension to do this if you can't reach. You don't have screw them in all the way by hand, just the first 4 or 5 threads (turns). Then you can finish up with the torque wrench.Do we need to use the torque wrench to tight the spark plugs?no. Just get them tight without stripping the threads. They'll be fine.Do we need to use the torque wrench to tight the spark plugs? No, just a simple wrench will doDo we need to use the torque wrench to tight the spark plugs? No torque wrench. Hand tight with rachet only. Take care.Do we need to use the torque wrench to tight the spark plugs? No, you do not need a torque.wrench. If you use a ratchet, just tighten until snug. I have been doing it this way for years and never had a problem.Do we need to use the torque wrench to tight the spark plugs? No it is not necessary, but is a good idea especially considering all the new cars have aluminum heads and you do not want to over tighten or have them too loose. If you can estimate about 20 lb of torque then go for it. I would however strongly recommend applying a SMALL amount of anti-seize to the male threads prior to installation. this will make them easier to remove next time and prevent any problems. be sure to start by hand, or you may cross thread which is a major problemDo we need to use the torque wrench to tight the spark plugs?Well, you can just use an ordinary socket wrench to tightne the spark plugs, but you run the risk of damaging the threads by over tightening the plug.. That can be a lot more expensive than buying a torque wrench. I wouldn't chance it. Plus, you'll have a torque wrench forever!Do we need to use the torque wrench to tight the spark plugs? No, torque is not necessary, just tighten them as you would any thing else but don't strip it. I also recommend buying all platinum spark plugs in stead of just one and the rest regular. It is better for the vehicle and thay will all last longer. They should cost no more that $7.00 to $10.00 a piece depending on the brand name.Do we need to use the torque wrench to tight the spark plugs?hands onlyDo we need to use the torque wrench to tight the spark plugs?I always use a torque wrench so there is absolutly no question the plug is not in too tight or too loose. Also be sure to use anti-seize lubricant on the new plug threads so you can remove them the next time you go to change them.

How to change spark plugs and wires?well you should easily be able to locate your spark plug wires and that would be the easiest thing -

one end will be where you place plugs into the engine the other end will be your distributor cap - as you take out plugs from your dist cap make sure you number them with tape ( masking tape ) this is your fireing order and you do not want to mess this up -

buy the pregapped plugs if your not familiar with changing them this way you dont have to worry about the gaping tool - i cant stand them personally -

and basically all you have to do is unplugg from each end replace your plug and wires -

since you arent getting good milage consider replaceing your air filter also -How to change spark plugs and wires?View the Advance Auto online %26quot;todays tuneups%26quot; video for the basic spark plug and wire installation

http://www.advanceautoparts.com/english/How to change spark plugs and wires?go to the parts store, pick up a haynes maintenance manual, how many cylinders does your engine have, pick up that many spark plugs, and wires, rent or buy a torque wrench, a distributer cap and rotor and an airfilter. mark everything where you find it. if you want to save a bit of money, skip the manual (they are handy to have for other maintenance stuff, though) and get everything else. You can get the torque values from the internet and the firing order should be stamped on the engine block, also the cylinder numbers should also be stamped on the block. Before you remove the wires, mark them the same as the cylinder numbers from which you removed them. leave them attatched to the distributer cap!!!! But make sure you mark them to match the cylinder mark on the block!! Then remove and replace the plugs, use the torque values. . . check each plug as they come out. there should be a nice uniform greyish white burnt look to them. note where the ones that look different came from and use the internet to find out what could have caused any irregular deposits on them. Then one by one replace the wires, making sure that you plug them all up to the same reciever on the distributer cap from which you removed them ONE AT A TIME!!! , them, remove the distributer cap, and line it up with the old one and trade the wires over to the new one, one by one, making sure that they are all in the SAME place they were on the old one, set aside, replace the rotor, you just pull it out and put the new one in, in the same position you found the old one in. then you reattatch the distributer cap and you should be on your way with MUCH better gas mileage!! Oh!! also replace your airfilter. . . umm you might also replace your fuel filter as well, sometimes it gets clogged up and messes with you mileage. . .? Good luck and I hope I helped some!! ^_^

HELP PLSValve cover seal that has leaked oil into spark plugs? How do I remove oil and effectively change seal?

I have a 92 Accord that has a lot of oil leaked into the spark plugs and has lost power. It is only 3 of the plugs and they are soaked in oil. What are some specifics I need to know about changing out the seal and removing any oil that is around the spark plugs or anywhere else that may mess up the engine?

How much silicon do i need and where does it go?HELP PLSValve cover seal that has leaked oil into spark plugs? How do I remove oil and effectively change seal? You will need to replace the spark plug seals and the valve cover gasket. It all comes in a set. You won't need too many tools. You will need to remove the plugs and clean them off and clean the spark plug boots. You can get the oil out with paper towels. You will not get all of it out. Some will go into the cylinder when you remove the plug, but that won't hurt anything. It might smoke a little when you first start it up after fixing this, but it should go away within 10 or 20 seconds.

I just did this on the same kind of car about 6 months ago. I usually put a rag over the hole and blow air down in there, it will blow out all the oil and dirt. If you are still nervous about doing this yourself, go get the Chilton's or Haynes manual for it. They are only about $20. It will save you lots of headaches later, trust me.HELP PLSValve cover seal that has leaked oil into spark plugs? How do I remove oil and effectively change seal?New cars use a seal that doesn't need silicon to seal. Get the gasket, or new cover, and clean the oil out with a rag. Unplug the coil wire and turn the car over so the oil in the hole will blow out. Clean area well reinstall new gasket and then the cover. Tighten to specs, install plugs and wires, Ready to go for a 100,000 miles, give or take.HELP PLSValve cover seal that has leaked oil into spark plugs? How do I remove oil and effectively change seal?Check the gasket box before using silicone . Most good brands do not need any sealant , but if it does , use Permatex Non-hardening gasket sealer - not silicone . As far as plugs , a spray cleaner such as Berryman B-12 will do them . Only problem may be the plug wires . If they are very soaked , you will be better off just replacing them .HELP PLSValve cover seal that has leaked oil into spark plugs? How do I remove oil and effectively change seal?92 Accord, mean you don't want to spend unless you have to!

So a combination of some of the previous answer is the way to go!

Permatex is good only when you got good surfaces to seal, but when you got a warped valve cover you better of with the silicone sealant, it will seal quite big gaps! Let it set before you start the engine! and clean the surface to be sealed with petrol (gasoline). You should be able to pick up a tube silicon sealant from most car accessory shops. I assume you don't have access to compressed air!?

Otherwise you could get a can of cheap degreaser spray, spray around the oil leak and wash it of with the garden hose. But than you need to blow the water of from it until it is perfectly dry!

So here is Rich C, right with the get the plugs out, clean most of the oil off with a cloth, Crank the engine so it blows out the extra oil. keep cleaning it with the cloth, until it is clean. When it lost power than you possible should invest into some new plugs. And check the oil level if you still got enough oil in the sump! Good luck!

Spark plugs are always screwed into the top of the cylinder headHow to change the spark plugs on a VW Polo 2004?Think you have coil packs on that. There might be 4 coil packs on top of the cylinder head (look like black little boxes bout 2%26quot; square) with electrical connection plugs clipped to them. If so there will be 4 screws in each corner of the 4 packs (small might even be torque screws?)

Ignition off, remove electrical connectors, Unscrew the 4 screws and pull off the pack which will have black rubber tube like thing which is popped on to the spark plugs. Your plugs will be down 'da ole'! Remember you must gap the new plugs to the manufactures specs with a feeler gauge. Give the threads some copper slip grease to stop them ceasing in the head.

Failing that, if you still can't find them then your probably driving a diesel.

Where are the spark plugs located on a 2000 Ford Expedition XLT 8 cyclinder?

I've been trying to change the spark plugs on my 00 Expedition for a couple of weeks but I can't find them. I asked at the Ford Dealership but they won't tell me because they want me to pay for a tune up instead. If anyone can tell me the location and how to get to them I would appreciate it greatly!Where are the spark plugs located on a 2000 Ford Expedition XLT 8 cyclinder? There is an individual coil for each cylinder and the spark plugs are located about 5 inches down inside the cylinder heads under each coil. And let's not forget that you need a 7mm 1/4%26quot; drive universal socket that costs 50 bucks to get to the 7 and 8 coils, and triple jointed fingers. It is not an easy job to change plugs on these engines, we usually charge 3 hours labor to change them, it is not a job that the usual vehicle owner can do. I would also suggest you let the dealer change them, they have done many and will save you a lot of pain and time. I always end up bleeding from somewhere after changing plugs on this engine.Where are the spark plugs located on a 2000 Ford Expedition XLT 8 cyclinder?First of all your vehicle doesn't have a distributor nor spark plugs wires. So if you are looking for that you won't find them. 2) Remove the wires, making note of their order (crucial). If you have a four cylinder, there will be four.

    3) Using a spark plug socket that fits your car (this differs car-to-car), unscrew the spark plugs

    4) Gap the new spark plugs, if needed

    5) Gently install the new spark plugs by finger tightening, then using your ratchet to just snug it in place - do not overtighten!

    6) Replace wires and cover, making sure the wires go back on in the correct order

Just be gentle, don't force anything, and you'll be fine. It might be the easiest thing to do next to replacing the air filter. How to change spark plugs inside cars? It's pretty straight forward. Find spark plugs, remove spark plug wires, unscrew/remove spark plugs, screw/install new plugs, replace wires.

Here is a simple guide with pictures:

    http://autorepair.about.com/od/regularma

It becomes difficult if the plugs are in a tight spot with little clearance, I'm not sure how it is on your car.

To be sure to get the right spark plug socket, buy the plugs from an auto parts store, then remove one from the box and find the socket that fits it.

Tip: Either label the spark plug wires, or do one at a time. You don't want to mix up which wires go on which plugs.

  • Do more expensive spark plugs make a difference?

Do more expensive spark plugs give you better results than ordinary cheap spark plug. How do I know which ones to buy so I get the best performance. Which ones do you recommend?Do more expensive spark plugs make a difference?i own a repair shop, and yes if your talking about the difference in a plug like a Bosch,,or ngk,,yes they do as compared to a champion plug,,actually Bosch platinum plugs are the best you can buy for the money, and they will out last all the others also,,i use them in the shop,,because i don't want my customers to have problems out on the road,,and i have always had them give good service in my vehicles also,,but there is a difference in good and bad,,or cheap,,either way you look at it,,these days, you get what you pay for,,good luck,i hope this help,s.Do more expensive spark plugs make a difference?they will amplify any other mods u do only really effective if your after another tenth of a second in a lap time normal life not worth feck all. and it would want to be the batman superman love child of a spark plug on l.s.d t get u an extra tenthDo more expensive spark plugs make a difference?Yes it does make a difference, just like everything else the better quality the better you pay, Me I like the splitfires better, but thats just a personal opinion.Do more expensive spark plugs make a difference? As a general rule of them, we replace plugs on Customers car's with OEM spec plugs. If they request different plugs, that is not an issue. Bosch Platinum plugs are very good plugs as well, but I am a bit skeptical about the %26quot;100,000 mile tuneup.%26quot; A super expensive Iridium plug wont give you any performance gains in a regular car, but a cheap off brand plug could cost you some.

On another note, for performance engines, I find autolite's to be very good plugs. Denso has a HUGE selection of heat ranges, which is really nice in find tuning a modded engine. One thing I do not like about Denso plugs, however, is that the tips of the spark plugs screw on, so they can vibrate loose and create a miss. I have seen it happen and the first time I saw it it was difficult to find, because it is the last thing you would expect.

JimDo more expensive spark plugs make a difference?Yes thats why they cost more. depends on what kind of car you have. I have had good luck with Autolite platnium ,denso irridium plugs also with Bosch ust depends on vehicle mfg,Do more expensive spark plugs make a difference?Better results.... they last longer, as in Platinums, but they wont give you like 50 horsepower and drop you from 16 to 12 secs in the quarter mile. The only advantage is that you wont have to change them as often..... In my experience of 25 years working on cars Champion is the best IMO..... NGK is the worst...alot of rim firing. But everyone has their own preference.

Can a motorcycle engine start with the kick start alone or do you need power to the spark plugs?

Hi, I have found a motorcycle engine, its a 250cc and its air colled. is there any way i can start it with the kickstar alone, without power to the spark plugs?, or how can i get it going to see if it works?. i dont have any of the bike parts, i just have the engine.

Thanks. Can a motorcycle engine start with the kick start alone or do you need power to the spark plugs? If it runs on points and not electronic ignition yes, it will start if the motor is in running condition...gas, carb, magneto etc...Can a motorcycle engine start with the kick start alone or do you need power to the spark plugs? If you want to get the engine running you need:

    carburettors+ fuel

sparkplugs+coil(s)+points n condensor or CDI unit and a battery 6/12volts depending on igntion systems requirements

Another way to know if its a good engine is to do a compression check. remove the spark plug, screw in a motorcycle compression tester, hold the carbs open( if theyre on the engine) and kick it over to build up the pressure on the gauge.

crap is about 70psi and below.

    Ok is about 90

    good is about 120psi+

If its a multicylinder then the psi reading must be pretty even across the cylinders if one or more is very low, you need to find out why. i.e 90,125,125,126Can a motorcycle engine start with the kick start alone or do you need power to the spark plugs? You don't need any spark plugs. If conditions are right, the engine will start with just a kick like all diesels do.Can a motorcycle engine start with the kick start alone or do you need power to the spark plugs?Usually the kick-start turned over a gadget called the Magneto which then produced a spark at the sparkplug, this is more often superseded by a battery and starter motor on modern machines , the battery turning over a starter motor and a generator /alternator producing the spark at the plug. Can a motorcycle engine start with the kick start alone or do you need power to the spark plugs? If that doesn't work. Push it down a hill and get to about 5-10mph and drop in 1st gear. Depending on how long the bike has been sitting this may take a few tries. Can a motorcycle engine start with the kick start alone or do you need power to the spark plugs?sorry james but it seems you know little about engines ...you will need a spark plug ...allso a battery ..an exhaust system and a fuel tank ...if its a 4 stroke you will need an oil tank ..leave it where you found it ..Can a motorcycle engine start with the kick start alone or do you need power to the spark plugs?Funny how everyone seems to have read the question differently to me.

When you kick the engine over, it will generate power to the plug, unless:

    1. it's the kind of engine that needs a battery as part of the ignition system;

    2. there's something wrong with the generator/magneto/dynamo;

    3. ditto plug lead(s);

    4. ditto spark plug(s);

    5. ditto contact breaker points or CDI unit.

    6. any combination of the above.

So technically, the answer to your question is, no, you can't start it without power to the spark plugs.

To get it going, as well as having the above in working order, you'll need a fuel supply. In your case, with just an engine and no cycle parts, that can be rigged up by some kind of tank with a tap in it mounted above the motor (e.g. motor on floor, tank on bench or table) with the fuel line running to the carburettor(s). (Presumably your motor has the carburettors attached?!!)

Have a good look around the site below. Happy tinkering! Can a motorcycle engine start with the kick start alone or do you need power to the spark plugs? You'll need a battery and all necessary ignition components, ignore anyone who says you won't.Can a motorcycle engine start with the kick start alone or do you need power to the spark plugs?you definitely need spark plugs. The kickstart should turn the engine over and provide a little power to the sparkplug and fire it up. If it is a single cylinder it may not need a battery (Vespas don't have one). If you have sufficient mechanical knowledge you should be able to get it running. If you don't, you won't get it running

To replace the plugs, first remove the %26quot;balance tube%26quot; at the top rear of the engine to help gain access to the coils. There is 1 coil per cylinder so simply disconnect the electrical connectors (one at a time) and remover the coil fasteners. Lift the coil up and off the sperk plug. It is longer to accommodate the longer shape of the spark plug. If you are going to change your own plugs make sure you check the spark plug gaps on the new ones. The ignition coils are the black gadgets that have an electrical connector to it and are bolted onto the intake manifold with a small nut. The spark plugs are pretty deep into the engine head. I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix SE. It has 102,000 miles on it and I'm wondering roughly what it should cost to have the spark plugs replaced and have my transmission fluid and filter changed. I live in LA.

ThanksHow much should it cost to change the spark plugs and replace the transmission fluid/filter on a Grand Prix?Josh didn't mention changing his transmission filter so, add about $20 or so.

Yes, you %26quot;have%26quot; to have the plat. plugs or else your Check Engine light will come on.

The Plat. plugs are also why you got 102k out of your first ones.

Not sure about the LA area but, 6 plugs at about $15 a piece is normal - plus labor if a garage does it.

[Plus beers, if I do it... :) ]

[[Correction, %26quot;plus beers as I watch you do it and I supervise.%26quot;]]

Total should be less than $200 if you do it. $325ish if done at a shop. How much should it cost to change the spark plugs and replace the transmission fluid/filter on a Grand Prix?Considering, it's a 2002 with that many miles i would also have the spark plus wires replaced. I had my done by the dealer for about 85 dollars.

Also, I changed the fluid myself. The fluid is expensive for this car type. You need type IV.

I used Castrol and it took 4 quarts costing 6 bucks a piece.

So your looking at about 125-150 bucks if you do the tranny fluid yourself.

How many spark plugs does a 1996 vw passat have?

I just got one of those diagnostic reports done at the dealership, since my check engine light went on . They said I need new spark plugs which they want to charge an arm and a leg for, when I can get them for $10 each at the most. How many spark plugs does a 1996 vw passat have?Four or six depending on which engine you have. Unless you have the turbo diesel in which case the answer is none. I would imagine the OE plug to be 10 - 15 dollars each.Labor depends on which engine. Our rate here is 70.00 per hour, so at a minimum you would need 4 plugs at 15.00 and minimum labor of 1 hour, although I would think it is more than 1 hour.

How often do you change Spark Plugs in your boat?

I have a 2003 Ebbtide Campoine 18.5' Mercruiser 4.3 V6 Alpha one. I just pulled it out of storage started doing the normal routine of cleaning and mechanical upkeep. Gear lube and Oil has been changed before storage (everything up to par) my question is regarding the spark plugs...

When should you change them? Is 3 years too soon? (I'll pull one out tonight and look for corrosion, etc).

How do I change the spark plugs in my 2002 Chevy Trailblazer?

My boyfriend and i would like to change the spark plugs our self and I was just wondering where they are locatedHow do I change the spark plugs in my 2002 Chevy Trailblazer?you never mentioned the engine size.

The inline 5cyl and 6cyl engines have the spark plugs located on the valve cover....UNDERNEATH the coils. This is a coil-on-plug system.......one coil per spark plug. How do I change the spark plugs in my 2002 Chevy Trailblazer? You should have 4 or 6 spark plugs in your vehicle depending on how many cylinders you have. Assuming you have a 6 cylinder, there should be 6 black that a visable as soon as you open your hood. At one end of them they should connect to what's called your distributer cap, which distibutes the spark. Follow those wires to the other end and they should run to your block, which houses your 6 cylinders, or 4. Where the wires meet your block, if you just pull them off the block your plugs should be right under them. If you already have the new ones, you just simply remove the old ones, pop in the new ones and place the wires back on. Now if your replacing the plugs because they are old you might want to replace those wires going to them, as well as on the the other side of the wires, your distributer cap. This will ensure a great start up, especially in the winter. How do I change the spark plugs in my 2002 Chevy Trailblazer?Best way to go is to buy a manual from your local auto parts store for 13 bucks along with some spark plugs for that particular year and model, then head home and read up on it first..the manual will expain step by step how to go about it.

Sometimes you need to use a dielectric grease on the plug wires.

The plugs need to be set at a certain gap setting.

They need to be tightened to a specific tourq.

Plus possibly more, depending on the year, make and model.

Dont be discouraged, there are just alot of details, Hope this helps.

Do high end spark plugs really do all that much? And if so how do I determine the right plug for my car?

Currently, I have an 2006 Acura TSX. All I have in it is a cold air intake and just wanted to increase my gas millage and off the start push. I've done some of my own research and found some arguments over the fact that spark plugs do improve performance, and other claims that it doesn't do anything. If anyone has any knowledge on the subject it would very much appreciated for your help.Do high end spark plugs really do all that much? And if so how do I determine the right plug for my car?The ignition on your car will provide plenty of spark to fully burn the fuel with standard plugs. There is some benefit as far as lifespan of the plugs to go with the platinum version of the standard plug. All other %26quot;gimmick%26quot; plug claims are BS with modern electronic ignitions like yours.Do high end spark plugs really do all that much? And if so how do I determine the right plug for my car?Platinum plugs will defiantly last longer. but with your 06 model I can't imagine them being bad yet. If your engine is running clean they should last 100,000 miles. The car manufacturers pay techs allot of money to design these engines from the factory. I suspect they know more about what kind of spark plugs goes in your vehicle than some kid behind a parts counter. :)

  • How much should it cost to replace the spark plugs on a 2004 Lincoln Aviator?

Vehicle diagnosis was that bad plugs were the reason for misfiring on 3 cylinders. Vehicle has 41000 miles on plugs. Quoate from dealer was almost $350 to replace plugs?? Seems high for eight $6.00 spark plugs unless I am missing something??How much should it cost to replace the spark plugs on a 2004 Lincoln Aviator?I am skeptical about the spark plug diagnosis. 41K is too soon to have no less that 3 plugs fail. If they are merely going by three different P030X (X would be the number of the cylinder misfiring) code to condemn plugs, they are not doing their job. If they use a scope to measure primary and secondary voltages, then they'd know 100% that it's plugs

I hope you didnt have to pay for that diagnosis, because I am fairly sure it is wrong. This code means more than simply bad plugs.

    Possible causes for P030X codes:

    Faulty spark plug or wire

    Faulty coil (pack)

    Faulty oxygen sensor(s)

    Faulty fuel injector

    Burned exhaust valve

    Faulty catalytic converter(s)

    Running out of fuel

    Poor compression

    Defective computer

There is also a TSB (technical service bulletin) out on 04 Aviators for vehicles with those misfire codes. Have the dealer check for:

    TSB No.: 06513

    NHTSA No.: 10019912

    TSB Date: January 1, 2006

    Failing Component:

    Engine And Engine Cooling:Engine

    Description of Summary:

    Engine misfire with diagnostic trouble code (dtc) pewee, p0302, p0303, p0304, p0305, p0306, p0307, p0308, and p0316.

If they wont, then go to another dealer.

Hope this helpsHow much should it cost to replace the spark plugs on a 2004 Lincoln Aviator?350?!?!?!? Spark plugs are 2$ a piece at checker. Replace them your self, its easy.

They must have wanted to change the plugs, wires cap and rotor.. and something else. that still doesnt seem worth 350$.. at all...How much should it cost to replace the spark plugs on a 2004 Lincoln Aviator?may be you need a coil to its mainly labor thats why your plugs run high cuz there platuim plugs they they should be good for 75000 miles but its labor lots of work to get to the plugsHow much should it cost to replace the spark plugs on a 2004 Lincoln Aviator?labor and labor. for a quote that high they don't want to do the job. all so go to some other shop that has a good rep and get a quote from them . you will be freaked at $$$$$$$$$$$$$ differentsHow much should it cost to replace the spark plugs on a 2004 Lincoln Aviator?they charge by the hour labor rate is high just check with another garage and get another estimate but you should be concerned about why the plugs are bad they are 100,000 mile plugs so they shouldn't be bad. and the warranty is still on the vehicle so you need to say to the dealership hey there is something wrong if this vehicle needs plugs because they are 100,000 mile plugs and try to get them replaced under your factory bumper to bumper warranty.

How do you get access to EGR valve and backside spark plugs in 2006 dodge caravan?

How do you find out the right heat range for spark plugs for a 72 chevy 350 engine 120 psi of compression?

I'm having problems with it carbon fouling , loosing cylinders, rough idle in gear. Thinking it was a vacuum leak replaced the intake gasket and still having the problems. I'm thinking its either the spark plugs (R44T) or putting a hotter coil to fix the problem.

Before I go buy something I don't need , Can anybody help me please. How do you find out the right heat range for spark plugs for a 72 chevy 350 engine 120 psi of compression? If your plugs are carboning up you must not run the car very hard very often to keep the carbon from building up or your carburator needs attention such as it's too big for the engine or the jets need to be smaller in it as it sounds like it's getting too much gas, also check your plug wires for being bad and if you don't have a HEI distriburator in it and still have the old point distriburator get rid of it and put the HEI in it, any junkyard carries them and it will give you a lot hotter spark and you will never have to worry about changing points again and your engine timing will stay stable all the time. How do you find out the right heat range for spark plugs for a 72 chevy 350 engine 120 psi of compression?A sparkplug doesn't make heat, therefore it can't heat up the engine. Sparkplugs can not and will not make an engine run hot (or cold). The fire in the cylinder heats up the plug, not the other way around. Heat range simply means how hot the plug itself will be. If the plug is too cold, it won't be able to burn off the oil and fuel deposits that collect on it and it will foul. If it is too hot, the electrode can't cool fast enough and it may start to melt away. On high compression engines, there is more cylinder heat so a colder plug is usually used. Sometimes the heat on race engines is so great, even cold plugs melt-off the electrodes. This is a common problem when running nitrous oxide. Some top fuel engines don't even run electrodes. The ground electrode is simply cut-off and removed because it will melt-off! The spark from the magnetos on those kind of race engines has no problem at all jumping from the center electrode to the edge of the plug. The bottom line is, you want to run the hottest plug you can without melting the electrode. This just assures a clean plug that yields a good spark. Hope this helps.....How do you find out the right heat range for spark plugs for a 72 chevy 350 engine 120 psi of compression?120 lbs of compression is not that good. As for your question of heat range if you get a repair manual it will tell you what type of plug to use.How do you find out the right heat range for spark plugs for a 72 chevy 350 engine 120 psi of compression? Some good info on these links for proper plug heat range determination. Too cold of a plug will allow more fouling as will an overly rich carb adjustment or settings. Too hot can cause problems also. Stock engine? call a Chev dealer or parts store for what is normal plug for it....usually, you can go one size hotter with no problem. as in, R44T to R45T. Are you sure it's carbon fouling and not oil?
