Are spark plugs used in all cars?

I'm trying to write a report on a company acquiring Champion Spark plugs and one of the criticisms of the company is that the market for spark plugs is declining due to cars being built with smaller engines. Is this accurate and how much so? I'm not even really sure what a spark plug does. Help! Are spark plugs used in all cars?Spark plugs are used in all gasoline engines. Diesel engines don't use spark plugs, in cars or trucks. So not all cars use spark plugs but most do.

Each cylinder of a car compresses a flamable mixture of air and fuel. When it is at its greatest compression the spark plug of a gas engine makes a spark that literally sets it on fire. It's almost an explosion except that it's carefully controlled. So that's what a spark plug does: it provides a spark to ignite the fule/air mixture at the right time, which causes the gas to heat and expand, which pushes the cylinder down, which turns the crankshaft and provides the energy to move the car.

The reason smaller engines use less spark plugs is that they have less cylinders. An eight cylinder engine used to be the standard, now most cars get by with four. In addition every year cars are engineered so that the plugs last longer. And yes, if I was in the spark plug business, I'd be seriously concerned that they are becoming obsolete. After all it happened once with the diesel; and engineers have eliminated carbuerators from most cars, substituting fuel injection. The new hybrid cars use less fuel by actuallly using the engine less... which means, fewer changes of sparkplugs. And even though fuel cells are probably decades away, they won't use spark plugs either. Are spark plugs used in all cars?Spark plugs are used in all vehicles with the exception of all electric vehicles and vehicles with diesel engines(they use glow plugs). Champion may have a hand in the replacement glow plug industry as well. Look into that.

The biggest factor regarding the spark plug industry is vehicles now being controlled by on board computers that keep the engine fine tuned at all times which increases the life of the spark plugs. Are spark plugs used in all cars?Unless they come up with a new way to ignite the fuel in your engine, all gasoline powered cars take spark plugs. The only thing I can think of as to the decline is the fact that a lot more cars have 4 cylinder engines now. They only require 4 plugs. A 6 cylinder has 6 plugs and an 8 cylinder has 8.Are spark plugs used in all cars?no, no they are not
