Can someone tell me how to install spark plugs in a 2002 mercury mountaineer. Steps and tools needed?

I bought my own plugs and for some reason no one will install plugs unless bought from them not sure why?? i got a quote of 145.00 from one place that will do it they said its about a 2 hr job because the head needs to come off...can this be done with basic auto skills?Can someone tell me how to install spark plugs in a 2002 mercury mountaineer. Steps and tools needed?It's not the head that has to come off, it's the intake manifold and a whole load of pipes, wires and other bits.
