How to change spark plugs inside cars?

Hello again =]

I had an Xterra 01 and I'm sure i have to change spark plugs. But since i never done it and I don't want to ruin or break them inside I wonder if some1 can tell me exactly and what tools to use to change them?

It's all the same for every cars?.. Same tools same methods? How to change spark plugs inside cars? It's the same for every car.

1) Remove the cover, if there is one (usually says DOHC or some nonsense like that).

2) Remove the wires, making note of their order (crucial). If you have a four cylinder, there will be four.

3) Using a spark plug socket that fits your car (this differs car-to-car), unscrew the spark plugs

4) Gap the new spark plugs, if needed

5) Gently install the new spark plugs by finger tightening, then using your ratchet to just snug it in place - do not overtighten!

6) Replace wires and cover, making sure the wires go back on in the correct order

Just be gentle, don't force anything, and you'll be fine. It might be the easiest thing to do next to replacing the air filter. How to change spark plugs inside cars? It's pretty straight forward. Find spark plugs, remove spark plug wires, unscrew/remove spark plugs, screw/install new plugs, replace wires.

Here is a simple guide with pictures:

It becomes difficult if the plugs are in a tight spot with little clearance, I'm not sure how it is on your car.

To be sure to get the right spark plug socket, buy the plugs from an auto parts store, then remove one from the box and find the socket that fits it.

Tip: Either label the spark plug wires, or do one at a time. You don't want to mix up which wires go on which plugs.
