How do you change the spark plugs in a '99 SAAB 9-5 SE?

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to take a shot at it myself. I figure it will be hard and require a full days work, but if I can save the 100+ dollars firestone wants to charge, its worth learning. What kind of spark plugs do I need? The guy at autozone gave me platinums. How do you change the spark plugs in a '99 SAAB 9-5 SE?There is a good web site that will give you step by step instructions as well as pictures on how to do it. Also, it gives you a page to order the plugs you need. It is:

http://www.thesaabsite.com/95/95faqs.htm

Here is the page to order the plugs from Bosch:

http://www.thesaabsite.com/95/95ignition

Here is the link to how to change the plugs:

http://www.thesaabsite.com/Sparkplugremo

With those two web pages, you should be set. I have followed them myself with no problems. How do you change the spark plugs in a '99 SAAB 9-5 SE?I assume you have the 4 cylinder model and didn't get the upgrade to 6 cylinder. Changing the spark plugs is one of the easiest procedures on Saab vehicles. Take out the 4 bolts that hold down the Direct Ignition cassette. It is right on top and has %26quot;Direct Ignition%26quot; imprinted on it. Pull up on the Direct Ignition cassette and put it off to the side. You now have direct access to the spark plugs and can remove them in the normal way with a spark plug socket and a short extension on your ratchet. If you have the plugs properly gapped when you start the job, it shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes even if this is your first time.

BTW, Platinum plugs are not recommended for Saabs - they can cause engine performance problems and premature Direct Ignition cassette failure. The standard, copper core resistor plugs, preferably NGK (but I have also used Champion and Delco without any problems) are recommended. Change them every 20,000 miles.

  • Would I be able to replace my rotor, cap and spark plugs on my 95 toyota celica by myself?

I have no auto repair experience but from how to articles I've read on the internet, it seems pretty straightforward. Is this an easy thing to do, and if so, got any tips to give me? It seems I'll save around $200 by doing it myself.

Thanks!Would I be able to replace my rotor, cap and spark plugs on my 95 toyota celica by myself?HI

Yes that is pretty basic stuff. Should be done with the motor cold so you don't strip the head as its aluminum and well swell when its hot so the plugs well be held to tight.

    1) Just remember to change the plugs one at a time so you get the right wire back on the right plug.

    2) When doing the cap mark the front of the old one, then pull it off the distributor, in stall the new one (they well only go on one way and lock down) then remove the wires out of the old one, one at a time and put it in the new cap in the same location.

    3) the rotor well only go on one way as well.

    4) you should get a spark plug gapper and check the gaps on the new plugs before you install them. they are not always gaped right from the factory. You can get the gap information form the parts house.

    good luck

timWould I be able to replace my rotor, cap and spark plugs on my 95 toyota celica by myself?thats totally up to you and whether you think you can do it or not but if you decide to you have to wait till your engine is cold well not cold but like semi-warm cause youll strip the spark plug if you do it while its hotWould I be able to replace my rotor, cap and spark plugs on my 95 toyota celica by myself?

first you have to have the tools then know where the parts are that you need to replace. Then carefully remove the spark plug wires so you do not break, same for plugs. For the first time you really need someone to show you otherwise you could damage something. Is this a cyl or V6. the V6 is more difficult.

How do I access the rear spark plugs on a 2002 Ford Taurus; 6-cyl.?

    2002 Ford Taurus; 6-cyl.; 3.0L

The rear plugs are buried and incredibly difficult to get to without removing parts -- but what and how exactly do I need to remove? How do I access the rear spark plugs on a 2002 Ford Taurus; 6-cyl.?What engine is the Taurus equipped with? Is it the 3.0L OHV V6 (eighth digit of VIN 'U'), or the 3.0L Duratec DOHC 24-valve V6 (eighth digit of VIN 'S')? If it's the 3.0L OHV V6, access should be relatively straightforward. You may need to use a short extension and a swivel type socket, but it's still fairly easily accessible. If you are referring to the 3.0L Duratec engine, you need to unbolt the upper intake plenum to access spark plugs to bank #1. Doing so is a relatively simple task. Just remember to unbolt the EGR tube first. Hope this helps.

ADDED: As I've advised, you will need to remove the upper intake plenum to access the spark plugs on bank #1 cylinders The only tools needed for this are a 5/16%26quot; socket with suitable extension and 10mm for the two EGR valve bolts if you don't have the 1-1/16%26quot; wrench for the EGR tube. The gaskets between the two should be reusable, unless it is absolutely oil soaked and squished, which even if, they aren't expensive. How do I access the rear spark plugs on a 2002 Ford Taurus; 6-cyl.?You're Welcome. How do I access the rear spark plugs on a 2002 Ford Taurus; 6-cyl.?Before you remove parts try going in through the wheel well. On some cars that's the easiest way, jacking it up and removing a wheel. Just make sure you use a jack stand, under the suspension, before doing any work. Working with a car on a jack is dangerous as they aren't very stable and the car could fall on you.How do I access the rear spark plugs on a 2002 Ford Taurus; 6-cyl.?Honestly, I do not know about the Taurus, but I think my 2001 Escape 6 cyl has the same engine. The garage quoted me $300 to change them since the engine is mounted sideways. How do I change the spark plugs on a 1994 Chevy Corsica?I assume you have the 3.1 V-6 engine...

The rear are the hardest, yet I can change them all in about 15 minutes. Just remove the ignition coil brackets, lift the unit up and out of the way. Make sure you mark what wires go where I get the firing order.

Then reach back and pull the ignition wires off the spark plugs. Use an extension bar and spark plug socket to remove the spark plugs. One at a time....

Install in order and your done. Reinstall ignition coil and you just save around 280.00 :)How do I change the spark plugs on a 1994 Chevy Corsica? All you need to do is find your spark plug wires and follow them to the engine. Pop them off one at a time and use a deep well socket (probably 5/8) and a ratchet (you might also need an extention) to take the plugs out. You'll need to check your spark plug gap before putting the new ones in, you can get the little tool at the auto parts store (just ask), and they might even be able to tell you there what the gap needs to be. Be sure you put the new plug in (tighten until just snug, don't crank the crap out of it) and replace the wire (use a little dielectric grease inside where the wire fits over the plug) before moving onto the next or you may get them mixed up and your firing order will be screwed up, therefore your car won't run.How do I change the spark plugs on a 1994 Chevy Corsica?go get you a rachet socket set make sure that you get an extended bar so you can reach the spark plugs do it yourself it's not hard and you can borrow the tools and that way all you have in it is the cost of the plugs and a little bit of your time. How do I change the spark plugs on a 1994 Chevy Corsica?Yes I've heard it's called the three plug tune up, because you have to be a contortionist to change the rear plugs......it's done from under the car reaching up between the firewall...$300 is probably a good deal...........

  • How to change spark plugs on a 1999 expedition?

i was lookin at it yesturday and there other cables in the way and some of the spark plugs go all the way to the backHow to change spark plugs on a 1999 expedition? Those coil on plugs are quite pricey, so I don't think so!!!! Get your 1/4%26quot; drive ratchet with the appropriate extension and 9/32 or 7mm socket to remove all the COPs (coil-on-plugs). Have fun with the one under the fuel supply and return line fittings on the fuel rail. If you have rear heat and A/C you'll need to work carefully around the heater hoses, so use caution!!! Once you do remove all COPs it's pretty straight forward to remove the plugs. Pay particular attention to cylinder #4 COP (the rear most one on the passenger side of engine). That particular COP was known to have coolant leaking on top from the heater hose to intake manifold connection. You might want to tighten up the clamp while you're %26quot;in there%26quot;. If the COP is coolant stained, replace it. Also check the COP boots for cracks or wear, and replace as necessary. It is STRONGLY recommended you use Ford/Motorcraft parts unless you want to do this job again. Can anyone tell me where spark plugs are located for 2004 Volvo S60 and how to replace them?

Have never worked on cars and trying to learn. Will appreciate for detailed instruction. Can anyone tell me where spark plugs are located for 2004 Volvo S60 and how to replace them? You must be carefull, it's easy to find the sparkplugs in your vehicle, if your engine is a V6 then you'll need 6 sparkplugs, if it's a 4 cyl then you'll need 4 sparkplugs, you'll only need one tool, and its the ratchet with a dice 5/8 of an inch (most sparkplugs have that size), so you follow the cable and just pull it out they're attached just by pressure, inside the hole is the sparkplug so you must fit the 5/8 dice in there with an extensor (probable) and the unscrew it counterclock wise

and it should come up, if it is unscrewed but it doesn't come up, use the same cable, push the cable inside the hole and apply pressure, it should get stuck in the plug, the pull it back and it should bring the plug out, insert the new one, screw it clock wise, the insert the cable and apply pressure, WARNING THE CAR ENGINE MUST BE OFF DURING THIS PROCEDURE.... AND YOU SOULD NOT MIX THE CABLES, they have a pecific order and if you mess with them, you wont be able to star the engine again. each cable has it's own and unique position. Can anyone tell me where spark plugs are located for 2004 Volvo S60 and how to replace them?ford dealerships, auto part stores, maybe junkyards but not likely cause the car is relatively new. if you want to replace it yourself you have to get a spark plug socket and probably take the plastic cover off the engine, remove the spark plug wires and put in the socket and get it out one by one and then put the new ones in.

How much would it cost to have the spark plugs replaced on a 2007 Chrysler Sebring Sedan?

The spark plugs probably last 100,000 miles. Check your owner's manual. Your car is too new to need them unless you drive more than 40,000 miles per year. Its a straightfoward job-and thats a larger easy car to work on. It probably doesnt even have a distributor cap-so thats one less thing you would have to change.

Take it into a STEALERSHIP or other shop-they will charge you hundreds for doing something a 16 year old could do.

How do you change spark plugs on a 1998 pontiac Grand Prix?

Looking at the engine they are in a line next to the engine, All six of them. reading something said there are three in front in three in back, so im not sure if what im looking at is correct. Help? How do you change spark plugs on a 1998 pontiac Grand Prix?ok first of all bunch of dummies telling u things that aint right. first of all it should be done at 100,000 miles so if u have over that many mile its likely it has been done already. next it is a V-6 motor, 3 plugs up fromt and 3 in the back. first step is to make sure ur engine is completly cooled down due to the fact it has alunimum heads. next step is to do one at a time. start with either side of the front of the motor. gentle pull one plug wire at a time. the tools u need is going to be 3/8drive rachet, 6in extension and 9/16 deep socket for the front and same for the back except the ones on the back are tricky. when u remove ur plug wire slip ur socket over the plug an dloosen it up, it might be tight if there are oringinal plugs, dont worry, little tug and they will come loose. next step is to get ur new plug and smear some thread antiseize on the threads, next make sure u double check ur gap on ur plugs, they are set at the factory but they do bounce around so double check that. next stick the new plug into the socket and lower to the plug hole, make sure u dont bang it around that will knock ur gap off, thread it in with the socket and extension, finger tight at first so u wont cross thread it. next just tighten it down with ur ratchet, not too tight though. the rest do the same. the back is harder but the same way. the best way is to put it up on car ramps and do it from underneth. How do you change spark plugs on a 1998 pontiac Grand Prix? One at a time! lol no really.your spark plugs have a spark plug wire goung to the top of it.hold the wire at the spark plug firmly and pull it off the sparkplug use a wratchet and a deepsocket and unscrew the sparkplug(righty-tighty,lefty-loosey)rep?with the new one make sure to get it tight and push the wire back on,push it real hard to make sure it is all the way down. do one at a time so you dont get the wires mixed up.How do you change spark plugs on a 1998 pontiac Grand Prix?the answer to ur original question is 1 at a time--lol

you are probably looking at the coil pack located on the side of the motor.

with closer inspection of ur engine you should locate them--the other end of the wires on the coil pack.

to change the ones in back it may be necessary to remove the alternator n reach in blind.

i am serious about changing them 1 at a time, this avoids improper spark timing. glHow do you change spark plugs on a 1998 pontiac Grand Prix? When doing the back ones, you might have to %26quot;roll%26quot; the motor forward to give you more room. This is done by removing the 2 motor mounts on the front of the motor that bolt to the brackets on the radiator core support. There is 2 bolt through each bracket. Best to use a racheting strap to hold motor in place and to pull forward. The back 2 on the right are the worst because they are so close to each other.

I gap 'em at about 34 thousands of an inch, with your electronic ignition, you'll probably want 41.

I'll share a couple axioms of auto repair with you. The first is:

If it works, don't fix it.

The second is: If you're guessing, guess the cheap and easy stuff first, expensive complicated stuff when you run out. So . . .

Check your air cleaner. If it's dirty, you may have fixed your problem.

Check under the distributer cap (if you have one). Even though you don't have points, clean stuff works better than dirty stuff any day of the week. A scale of electrons collects on those 4, 6 or 8 contacts up inside the cap. Chipping it off can sometimes be the difference between a bullet and a slug.

Sluggish could mean your injectors aren't injecting like they used to. I've never owned a car with injectors, but from what I understand, you can't clean injectors %26amp; re-use them. The minuit you stick anything in the injector to clean it, you've mucked up the injector spray pattern. If they can't be made to flow better (i.e. spray better) by using some kind of gas additive injector cleaner, they have to be replaced. The best evidence of clogged injectors is hard starting.

The most expensive thing that I would try to avod fiddling with at all costs is the on-board computer that meters fuel and spark timing. Go here only if necessary.

  • What are all the items i need to constantly change for my car and how often?for example: spark plugs, oil etc?

i would like to make a spreadsheet of all the items i need to keep track of and swap out. i do not know much about cars, but i would like to know when something comes due and that it needs to be changed out. the only thing i really already know is the oil change every 3000 miles, but what about spark plugs, filter and the rest? thanks for all your answers! What are all the items i need to constantly change for my car and how often?for example: spark plugs, oil etc?It really depends on the car but a general rule of thumb is, oil and oil filter at every 3k, engine and cabin air filters every 15k, fuel filter every 15-20k, spark plugs 30k for regular, 60-90k for most platinum spark plugs, PCV valve 15k, rotate tires and check brakes 5-6k, lube chassis, suspension and locks 15k, check tire pressures weekly, check lighting weekly and replace wiper blades annually. Belts and hoses should be replaced at 60k or 6yrs and timing belts range from 60-110k if equipped and depending on year, make and model. Sorry, almost left out the transmission fluid, 15k if you tow and 25k under normal conditions. What are all the items i need to constantly change for my car and how often?for example: spark plugs, oil etc?It should be in your owners manual.

If you don't have one, someone may be able to tell you if you clue us into what kind of car you have as different cars have different requirements. What are all the items i need to constantly change for my car and how often?for example: spark plugs, oil etc?Ideally, the air filter should be checked everytime you fill up at the pump, but of course the world isn't ideal. You should check it at least once a month because I'm sure your driving areas can change in that time frame, thus exposing your filter to different elements.

I would check everything else (spark plugs, all other fluids, hoses, PCV valve, etc) every 15,000 miles to be safe, and change them out if it looks abnormal. Your manufacturer should provide you with a time frame of service intervals for each thing in the owners manual. What are all the items i need to constantly change for my car and how often?for example: spark plugs, oil etc?if it is an auto trans you need to change the filter in it every 250,000 miles unless you don't mind buying a new one

  • How do I change the spark plugs on my 1999 Mercury Tracer?

No, I don't know the details about the engine. (It's an LS, the car, if that helps or matters.) Yes, I could take it to a mechanic if I had to, but I work weird hours and hardly ever have time available for that, and besides, I'd really just like to learn to do it myself.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. How do I change the spark plugs on my 1999 Mercury Tracer?Without knowing the specifics of the vehicle, and becaus eno-one else has tried to help you yet, I'll do my best. I assume this is the first time you'll be doing this job.

Pop-off the spark plug wires, one at a time. These are the (black probably) thick cables that seem to spider accross the motor. Under each one is a spark plug. If I remember the tracer corrdectly, it has a 4 cylinder front wheel drive motor, so the plug (and wires) will lead either to the verfy center of your valve cover, in a horizontal line, or just above your exhaust manifold.

Now, like I said, do one at a time so that you don't mix up wires. Pop off the far left cable (grab the end 'boot' and pull. Now, using a spark plug socket (it will be designated on the side as such, having a protective and 'sticky' piece of rubber in it) put the socket onto the spark plug. SLOWLY 9as to not break the ceramic plug) apply force counter clock-wise until the plug come loose (this may require quite some force). Now, 'gap' your new spark plug (call your local autoparts store if you need help). To install, use a piece of rubber hose and stick the end of the plug (the screw on metal and ceramic part) into the hose. Screw in the plug using the hose, so that there won't be anough pressure to strip the threads on the head incase you do it wrong. After you're sure it's in straight, use the socket and install it securely. To install, you the same size socket, only without the rubber piece in it (other wise the socket may become stuck to the plug). Tighten it snugly, very tight without stripping the threads. After this is done, 'pop' the plug wire back on, and move on to the next. 10 minuts later, you have brand new plugs, meaning more power and better fuel economy.

Don't get psyched out, this is an incredibly easy procedure, and with these instrustion you can now do it on nearly every vehicle produces since the '60s

How do I change the spark plugs in my gas engine 4cl 2001 jetta?

I am ready and willing to do it myself and would love some advice. Thanks :-)How do I change the spark plugs in my gas engine 4cl 2001 jetta?Tools you'll need: ratchet, spark plug socket, and an extension. You can buy these from your local car parts store, Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, or a hardware store. I recommend that you go to Sears and get yourself a small toolkit. Talk to the folks there and tell them what you want and how much you're willing to spend. They'll match your needs and budget to their selection and get you set up.

Remove the plug wire from the spark plug and then remove the spark plug. Do each cylinder ONE AT A TIME so you don't get confused as to which wire goes where. Sometimes spark plug wires are numbered as to which cylinder they go to, but DO NOT trust those numbers. Somebody could have changed the wires or used a wire numbered %26quot;3%26quot; on number four cylinder.

Before installing the new plug, make sure the air gap between the electrodes is correct. You can obtain the correct gap from your car's repair manual. Your local library has manuals for virtually every car made. You may not, and probably won't, be able to take the book out of the library, but they will make a photocopy of the appropriate pages for you.

While you're under the hood check your air filter. Is it clean or do you need to replace it? You can tell by holding the filter between your eyes and a light source. If you can't see light through it, it's time to replace it.

Check your oil, too. Is it time to change it? If it is, come back here and I'll tell you how to do that, too. It's easy.

Good luck and have some good, messy fun!How do I change the spark plugs in my gas engine 4cl 2001 jetta?not to detract from what you say..l think its great to get ''under the bonnet'' assuming its the same as a petrol car its easy.....each plug has a lead...its important to replace the correct lead to the plug it came from...so

    1 buy your plugs

2 make sure you have a plug spanner

3 remove the first lead, with a firm but not a tearing pull...spray it inside with wd 40

4 using the plug spanner locate it over the plug(have a practice on one of the new ones to see how it locates)rap a cloth round your hand in case the spanner slips a plug spanner btw has a t handle and the business end has a snug fitting hexagonal domed spanner some have a rubber insert and it has a universal joint between the two...sounds technical but its easy really as it allows the spanner to bend to most angles..well you will see its easy

5 use a bit of brute force and ignorance anti clockwise keep the cloth round you hand

keep turning anti clockwise to loosen if its a bit tight a light tap with a hammer will assist...to loosen

6 turn turn turn and remove the old plug

7 carefully clean around the plug hole with white spirit...if you want you could put in a teaspoon of redex in the hole now its not essential but is an extra bit of maintenance..the engine will smoke a bit at start up..but its the cr-- out of your engine burning away and is quite normal but a bit alarming at first.

8 grab a new plug....and with you fingers only carefully locate the thread into the hole..take care and be willing to try 2/3times but ensure the thread is turning in smoothly into the hole...if its not remove an try again...

9 use the plug spanner to tighten down the plug to medium tightness firm but not ott

10 clip back on the lead it will 'snap' on

    11 start her up

blow the smoke out(if you used redex)

12 if all ok repeat the process for the other plugs one at a time...

now this is for a petrol engine....l am assuming gas is the same.....but check first...the rac or aa will advise. and take care a gas leak is classed as a major incident....and l would hate you to arrive in orbit unannounced

All can be obtained at the parts store with your spark plugs. work the wires off of the spark plugs...in your case do this one plug at a time. remove the old plug...oh yeah...get some antisieze lubricant. put a small amount of antiseize lubricant on the threads of the plug after gapping them correctly. install in the reverse procedure removed.Does anyone know about changing spark plugs on a 1998 chevy blazer?it can be difficult.they are probably under the manifold,if so then they are hard to see them.all i can tell you is trace the plug wires down till you feel the plugs and take a 5/8th plug socket and ratchet and change them.Does anyone know about changing spark plugs on a 1998 chevy blazer?this is not an easy one to change I've done a few you need to be inventive ie. extensions wrenches swivels on sockets etc. and as far as access the left side is hard because you need to get around the steering shaft but there are worse out there.. so if you decide to do it on your own kudos to you and good luck

How hard is it to replace the spark plugs on 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt V6?

How long does it take to get it done? Already bought all the necessary parts to do it.How hard is it to replace the spark plugs on 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt V6?The front 3 are a piece of cake.

The rear 3 however, require removal of the upper intake manifold plenum. If you take your time and proceed carefully, you should be able to do it with your haynes manual at your side.

Labor time to replace the spark plugs on a 4 cylinder is 0.6 hrs. The V-6: 2.6 hours.

Be sure to purchase the upper intake gasket. They are pretty cheap. The paper gasket that is on the engine will be quite brittle, and will probably break during disassembly.

also, with the vehicle being 8 years old, it would be a good idea to replace the spark plug wires while you have them accessible.

Another note: If the spark plug boots are oily, you will want to replace the valve cover gaskets. You will also want to soak the oil out of the spark plug tube before you remove the spark plug. Otherwise, all that oil will run into the cylinder and cause a lot of smoke and can cause the new spark plug to foul slightly. How hard is it to replace the spark plugs on 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt V6?Got it done. It was a pain in the ***. I'll probably take to get done next time. But it's possible for anyone to do without taking it to an auto shop. Just label where everything you take off with tape so you know where it goes when you reassemble.

If you don't know what you are doing, leave it the pros to aviod any problems, but since you already bought the parts, it will take some time to remove the back three.

How often should you change your spark plugs?

I seem to have miss-placed my service manual. I have a 2003 Dodge Intrepid and I last changed them in February of 2007.How often should you change your spark plugs?I replace mine every 10,000. Don't waste your time trying to re gap them yourself. They only cost about 5 bucks each and your better of just getting new ones anyway. Don't buy those silly platinum ones either, they only last about the same as the regular spark plugs. How often should you change your spark plugs?A timepiece has little to do with whether something mechanical is worn or not.

I bought a vehicle with 150,000 miles that specified a 100k interval and found the original plugs all looking normal considering the number of miles they had. I only changed them as a rule while looking for a stumbling problem that turned out unrelated.

You should change plugs when the engine has issues but air cleaner and intake related parts get a cleaning first.

Try the link below. How often should you change your spark plugs?Any modern platinum tipped spark plug like your truck probably had installed as original equipment can last up to 100,000 miles. I have 90,000 miles on the original plugs in my 2000 Taurus and the gap has barely worn in all those miles. The car runs great. How do I change the 3 back spark plugs in a 2000 Acura 3.2TL?

I have changed the three spark plugs in the front that are easy to access. I do not know how to access the three spark plugs in the back. Can someone assist on this one?How do I change the 3 back spark plugs in a 2000 Acura 3.2TL?I do not own 2000 3.2 TL. I do own an '00 V6 Accord, and an '06 TL. I have changed the plugs in my Accord, and I know what you mean...it's a challenge to get to the back ones.

Not sure if you have a top tower brace (a metal tube that stretches across the right %26amp; left suspension strut towers). If you have one, you might need to remove it.

Having the right tools on hand is important. You'll need a 3/8%26quot; socket wratchet (for removing the old plugs), a 3/8%26quot; torque wrench (for installing the new ones), along with your deep-well sparkplug socket w. internal rubber gasket. It's also handy to have a 3/8%26quot; stubby wratchet since with it you'll have more 'feel' for re-guiding %26amp; threading the new sparkplugs back into their holes. You'll also need a 3/8%26quot; swivel, plus several legnths of 3/8%26quot; socket drive extensions...3%26quot;, 6%26quot;, and even perhaps a 12%26quot; legnth will be helpful (necessary).

With the aforementioned tools available, getting the plugs out shouldn't be such a tough thing...it's getting the new ones in that's more of a challenge. Use a very small amount of anti-seize lubricant on the spark plug threads...not too much.

Assemble the optimal legnth socket drive extension to your sparkplug socket, and to the swivel connect that assembly onto your drive wrench. Again, a stubby wrench comes in handy for helping you to finesse the correct alignment of the plug into the threads. It's critical to not 'cross-thread' the cylinder head during this process...shouldn't have to apply lots of force to get the plugs going into their threads. Once you have a few turns established, you can switch over to your torque wrench, to complete the process.

One little 'trick'. I've found that sometimes the rubber gasket internal to the sparkplug socket fits rather tightly with the plug. It's maddening to install a sparkplug, then tug on the wrench only to find that your socket is left stuck in the sparkplug well. What's helpful is to remove the rubber gasket before you begin this whole process, and trim some of the rubber away to make for a modest, but not too tight of a fit with the sparkplug insulator. That way, the socket will easily release from the sparkplug once you've finished tightening it.

    Hope this helps.

The other solution is of course to take the car to a shop %26amp; pay them the $$ for the work.

Regards. How do I change the 3 back spark plugs in a 2000 Acura 3.2TL?I don't have the car, but I do have many years of experience working with cars that has same engine layout. In most cars, you can lift up the front end and you can work from the under the car. Extend your arm upward to the engine block. Most of minivans or Japanese imports can be done this way.

However, if you cannot reach from bottom of the engine block, then you will have to remove intake components to get from the top. Japanese cars use rubber gaskets so you can safely remove everything and reinstall without worrying about needing a new gasket.

    http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker

There are lots of manufacturers that make spark plugs for the T-Bird. Here are a few (the car came with single platinums from the factory so at least get these):

    Regular:

    Champion - 407

    Autolite - 2545

    ACDelco - R44NTSE

    Bosch - 7590

    Single Platinum:

    Champion - 3407

    Autolite - AP2545

    ACDelco - 41811

    Bosch - 4212

    Double Platinum:

    Champion - 7407

    Autolite - APP2545

    Bosch - 4309

    Others:

    Bosch +4 Platinum - 4469

    Champion Iridium - 9402

    Autolite Xtreme Performance - XP5145

There are lot's of choices to make. I have a 1996 T-Bird and I use Autolite Double Platinums and they work beautifully. The gap specification is 0.054 inches. Some plugs will come pre-gapped, others won't. A gap gauge is only $1 so you should check it to be sure. Good luck!

How do you change the 3 rear spark plugs on a 1996 3.3 Dodge Caravan?

We've got a 3.3 Liter Engine 1996 Dodge Caravan, and we want to change the spark plugs. I can get to the front three, but I can't get to the 3 rear ones.

I've hear they sell a special socket at Sears, but I don't know if this is true. Is there any way I could do it without a purchase. I don't want to drop the sub frame either.

So if anyone knows of any forums or guides I can go to, or something you might know. I've Googled it already, but I can't find anything.

Thanks a million! How do you change the 3 rear spark plugs on a 1996 3.3 Dodge Caravan? This is when you have to ask yourself %26quot;What were they thinking?%26quot; It seems sometimes there was no thought at all given to ease of maintenance. I came across this, which may or may not be of help in your case. It sounds like a real nightmare. Good luck:

Changing spark plugs on the Chrysler 3.3/3.8 litre engine is very awkward. You can do the aft leftmost two by working from underneath on the back side of the engine (it does not take much lift of the vehicle for appropriate reach when crawling under on your back, to reach standing up would take a high lift), using a non-swivel socket with medium extension bar and preferably a 3/8%26quot; ratchet drive. The rightmost is a long reach from above.

(All directions are from driver's seat. You'll be working almost blind thus it is difficult to judge the angle of the plug and your wrench. I recommend blowing air into the well around the plug to remove sand and pebbles that would fall into the cylinder once you've removed the plug.) You'll want a good wire puller, preferably that locks onto the plug wire below the bend in it and has very good grips for your hand as the tight space makes gripping difficult and there is little room to pull, though I have pulled the wires off with my bare hands. A normal spark plug socket without swivel should work, using short to medium extension bar, but wrench space will be tight and you'll need an experienced touch to start threading the replacement plug in correctly.

For the centre aft one you can get both hands in, one each side of exhaust take-down pipe.

For the aft right one some people detach the alternator bracket.

The aft plugs are angled opposite to the front ones, as if the same head casting was used, with a bend %26amp; tab in the wire as the front ones have. Looking at the front ones you can also see how far they are recessed.

    - While you are underneath reaching up the back side of the engine, tighten the centre aft bolts of the rear valve cover with a 10mm wrench.

Preferably medium length with open and closed ends, one angled with a bit of offset as is common on closed-end wrenches (as the cover has a lip around the edge). There is not enough room for the height of a 1/4%26quot; socket wrench.

You should be able to reach the middle two from the back side, and perhaps one or two more that can also be reached from under the hood.

    - Back around the front of the engine (well, start there first so you know which ones are left to do from the rear), you can reach these valve cover bolts: %26gt; with a 1/4%26quot; swivel and long extension on a 10mm socket, the right most aft bolt of the rear valve cover (through the cutout in the alternator bracket), the left-most aft bolt of the rear valve cover (with care), and with even more tricky maneuvering the front RH bolt of the aft valve cover (otherwise you can take the coil pack off: 4 bolts, the underneath ones on more of a pedestal than the top ones). %26gt; with a long extension on a 10mm socket all other valve cover bolts.

Kokopelli think painted pony much better option. No have spark plug. How do you change the 3 rear spark plugs on a 1996 3.3 Dodge Caravan?under the wheel wellHow do you change the 3 rear spark plugs on a 1996 3.3 Dodge Caravan? There are two methods. (1)Assuming you don't have a lift, put the van on jackstands or ramps. You don't need any special tools, but it is a difficult reach to remove the wires carefully and the plugs. Also it is hard to get the install angles for the plugs as it mostly a by feel operation and a real stretch on the hands and joints. But very doable with a lot of patience and flexibility. (2)A dealer mechanic has indicated to me that they take off the windshield wiper cover surround and pull it to gain the additional clearance needed to do the job from above, and apparently this is the smarter move as a dealer guys usually have scienced out the better ways to do things and maximize the return.

I am guessing you know how to get to the plugs, so i advise u to make sure the engine is cold, say first thing in the morning. Never pull plugs when motor is hot or at operating temperature as this can sometimes have a negative effect on an otherwise easy job.

Ok so motor is cold u have access to spark plugs and the needed tools; Remove the spark plug lead dont just pull on the lead try to gently use the insulating boot around plug the black rubber bit closest to the spark plug, before undoing the plugs try to tighten the spark plug a very little amount as this seats the thread on the plug, once plug has been tightened fractionally undo plug and insert new plug into same location.

When inserting new plug try to get the thread to bite by screwing it in with your fingers if possible, that is until you have to use the ratchet. At this point i will advise that if the plug isn't going in as easy as it came out then STOP and make sure you are not cross threading the plug. Just undo it and start again.OK so finger tight, good; Next using the ratchet tighten the plug firmly, i cant help u here as this is usual done by feel. If you are changing the distributor cap and rotor be sure to mark your wires so you know where they go into the cap, or your car may not start. For an oil change, crawl under the car, place a container that can hold at least 5 qts. under your oil pan drain plug and remove the plug, opening your filler cap will help it drain quicker. After it has drained all out, use a filter wrench and remove your oil filter, put a little oil on the rubber gasket on the new filter and put it back on your car by getting it hand tightened and using the wrench to tighten it another 1/4 turn. Put your drain plug back on your oil pan and tighten.

Fill your car up with required amount of oil, maybe 4 qts first if it takes 5, start your motor to circulate the oil through the motor and filter, turn it off and add the remaining quart. You might want to change your air filter also if you have a new one.

5w-30 or 10w-30 should be right for the oil.

Remove the oil filler cap first before draining the oil. I know it's very rare that one can't open it, but it'll be a big headache if you drain the oil and then can't fill it.

Know the a torque setting and use a torque wrench.

Double check on the spark plug's gap.

Consider using a little anti-seize on the spark plug. Some have a coating on it already, some people don't use it. Just consider it.

For a 2001 Ford f150 harley davidson? The Ford 4.6L %26amp; 5.4L spark plugs are on top of the head, running along the intake. Both motors have coil-on-plug technology. Look at the top of the engine, next to the fuel rails and you'll see the coils, round objects with electrical connections coming off of them, very similar to injectors, but about 4 times larger.

Changing them isn't as bad as it looks at first, but you probably need a swivel for a few in the back and in my experience it is worth the headache to go ahead and pull the driver's side fuel rail to get better access. Understand that if you do that you'll need to relieve the fuel pressure first, probably need to change the injector o-rings (these are cheap...less than $3 at most auto parts stores) and a little grease on them to slip the fuel rail back on.

The rear ones are the most difficult, but it is definitely doable for most shadetree mechanics.Where are the spark plugs located and how do you replace them? For a 2001 Ford f150 harley davidson? They are at the dealers' service department.

Cheers!Cost to replace spark plugs on a 01 Jeep Wrangler? Why do you need to change the plugs? If you're doing a tune up you'll need to do more than just spark plug changes. Other things in the ignition system that often get changed are the plug wires, distributor cap/rotor (if your Jeep has one), etc.

If you just want to price the spark plugs for your Jeep, call or search a few auto parts stores online.

Then call a few local shops to get a quote for the labor. And then ask them what else they recommend when changing the spark plugs for that model Jeep. Always shop around.Cost to replace spark plugs on a 01 Jeep Wrangler?50Cost to replace spark plugs on a 01 Jeep Wrangler?$50-$100 but there are several factors to consider. How many plugs do you need? I dont know if a Wrangler is a 6 or 8 cylinder but cheap plugs are about $2 each, maybe $5 for upper mid range plugs. So 8 cylinders times $5 would be $45 just for the plugs and the labor will be about $30 on top of that which would make it $75 plus tax. If its a 6 cylinder and you go with the $2 plugs your looking at closer to $50 including labor and tax. I would NOT pay more than $150 unless they are doing a complete tune up.Cost to replace spark plugs on a 01 Jeep Wrangler?$400 dollars ! wow. it should cost no more the 50 of 75. i would,nt get going there.
